How airports are commercialising Twitter whilst enhancing the passenger experience

I was recently on a Trade Mission to the Gulf region, as part of the trip we visited major airlines and airport hubs in the region. On my return home from Dubai International Airport I registered to receive flight information by Twitter, via their @DXBUpdates service. I received real-time messages as the flight progressed (extract below) through to departure.

In-between all the operational messages the service provided me with a “exclusive” offer, a 20% discount at Costa Coffee (just by my gate!).

The time between the physical start of boarding and receiving a Twitter “now boarding” notification was approximately 20 seconds!
